Project Spotlight: Salesforce Transit Center, Phase 2
Known as the Portal (or the Downtown Rail Extension), Transbay Joint Powers Authority will start construction on a $7.57-billion, 1.3-mile underground railway to connect Caltrain and the future California High-Speed Rail directly into the heart of downtown San Francisco. Heavy construction will start in 2026-27. The project is well over two-thirds funded, anchored by a $3.38-billion grant commitment from the Federal Transit Administration alongside state and local contributions.
